Whether you're a new artist or you'd like to start over at the basics, we can get you started on your drawing journey. Don’t worry if you feel like you're not an artist because you can learn to sketch during this class with any experience and skill level – including none at all! Mary is ready to share her tips, tricks, and techniques with you. She's there to address any concerns or answer questions that you may have about the process, so be sure to come ready to experiment and make mistakes. It's all part of the process of learning! We encourage creative play over mastering skills, but you'll walk away with the foundation to continue learning or just take this time to meet other adults wanting to improve their drawing skills.

What you'll learn:

  • Basic tools for drawing

  • Shade and contour

  • Light and shadow

  • Still life composition

Supplies Needed (we have some limited supplies you can borrow in a pinch):

  • Drawing pencil set (at least 8 ranging from hard to soft)

  • Drawing pad (11x14 or 9x12 recommended)

  • Kneaded eraser

  • Pink or white eraser

  • Blending stumps (3 in various sizes)

From the instructor:

“My love of drawing started as a child as a began to draw the objects around me. Through my journey of both formal instruction and creative play, I've learned to be an observer of the world through an artist's lens. I hope that participants of this workshop will be able to walk away with more confidence as an artist, whether they identify as one or not. Every experience I share is meant to be fun and rewarding and create a sense of joy. There's no pressure to master any skills but to simply enjoy the process." - Mary Hlastala
